Part Cost & SKU Calculator | Reference
This tool estimates per-part injection-moulding cost from material, cycle time, machine rate, rejection and profit assumptions, then rolls multiple parts up into a full SKU or assembly cost | for toolmakers quoting parts, OEM procurement/cost-engineering teams checking a supplier's part price, and anyone comparing Make vs Buy options before an investment decision.
Shot Weight = Part Weight × Cavitation + Runner (manual or % of part weight). RM Cost/Shot = Shot Weight ÷ 1000 × RM Rate. Moulding Cost/Shot = (Machine Hourly Rate × Cycle Time ÷ 3600) ÷ (Efficiency ÷ 100). Rejection and Profit are both added as a % of (RM + Moulding). Total/Shot ÷ Cavitation = Cost/Part. Multiple parts combine into a SKU total using quantity-per-set (QPS).
Full Methodology & Limitations →
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Part Weight / RM Rate / Cycle | 100 g / ₹105/kg / 40 sec |
| RM Cost/Shot | ₹10.50 |
| Moulding Cost/Shot | ₹4.63 |
| Cost / Part (result) | ₹17.70 |
This is the tool's own default/baseline scenario (PP, single cavity, 2% rejection, 15% profit+overhead) | shown here as a worked illustration.
Do I need to know the exact cycle time and tonnage?
No | use Estimate Helpers (wall thickness, projected length/width, material, optional MFI) to get a suggested cycle time and machine tonnage, then click "Use this" to fill them in. You can always override with your own numbers.
Can I enter runner weight as a percentage instead of grams?
Yes | toggle Runner Mode to "% of part weight" if you don't have an exact runner weight from your CAD/trial data.
How does the SKU roll-up work?
Add each part with its own Quantity Per Set (QPS) | the tool multiplies each part's Cost/Part by its QPS and sums them into one SKU total, useful for assemblies with multiple moulded components.
